Amidst The Shuffle

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is an impressive game so far.  Huge improvements from XIII.   I’m really digging the ost with the Collectors Edition too! Later on this month I’ll be heading to the Distant Worlds concert here in Saint Louis at Powell Symphony Hall.  Should be a great time!

Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast).  Considered by many to be one of the best JRPGs ever made, I’ll finally be able to play this for the first time later this month.  It’s always been on my list of games I need to play, especially since I’m a huge fan of Dreamcast.  To the skies…

Dark Souls=Conquered

Well, the tough-as-nails epic is completed.  I may have to go into hibernation and rest up till spring…too many hours put into this.  It was a great ride though.

Dark Souls Update

Well, I’ve gotten the PS3 back (they just sent me a different 60 GB entirely), and in a matter of 10 hours I’ve caught up to where I was before the system called it quits.  I’ve managed to shave off 20+ hours this second time through.  Also, I went with the deprived class to make things challenging (why do I do this to myself…).

Found lots of new equipment and secrets this time.  Oh, and having a maxed out Raw Halberd has done wonders with boss fights.

As of now I’m in the Duke’s Archives and captured in a cell.  Still loving it!

Dark Souls and the (temporary) death of my PS3

Dark Souls has been on my radar since it’s announcement.  I conquered the brutally difficult Demon’s Souls (and NG+).   I was ready to face Dark Souls and it’s “Prepare to Die” tagline.  My system was not.

I’ve been living in Dark Souls world since I got it at its opening release night…at almost 35 hours in, my 60 GB PS3 decides to crap out on me.  Fan-bloody-tastic.  Yes, the dreaded yellow light kicked on and the system just shut down entirely.  This Ylod (yellow light of death) kicked in at the worst time and all progress is now lost.  I sent the ol’ ps3 off to Sony this afternoon and hopefully it can get fixed…I turned down the option to upgrade to the newer slim model (but, is it really an upgrade when the 60 GB has all those nice features like backwards compatability?). Honestly, I really haven’t dropped a lot of hours into the system itself, so it’s kinda odd that it would die on me, but maybe that’s why the old models were discontinued to begin with.  I have a feeling that they aren’t that great with internal cooling.

Well, on the bright side the game has lived up to my expectations and I think getting back up to speed should go a bit more smoothly.  I can’t say really if this game is more difficult.  Yes, I’ve died numerous times, but being familiar with the previous game might have given me an advantage.  Maybe I’ll go with that deprived class this time around to make things interesting.

I went to see Paper Route in concert a few weeks back for their Shake the Dust Tour.  It was amazing.  If you haven’t listened to any of their stuff I highly recommend you check them out.  Here is a clip from there upcoming album; track is called Two Hearts.  No firm release date, but I met the lead singer and asked him when might the new album be out and he mentioned possibly January. Sweet!

According to Kazuma Kujo’s twitter account, he wants to see a Disaster Report revival.  This is promising news considering that the completed Disaster Report:  Summer Memories was canceled (and rightfully so given the situation).  Perhaps the game or another iteration will see the light of day?  I feel that maybe the game could be released in other territories and a percentage go to helping Japan recover.  If anything, a future game could go into further depth/facts on bringing awareness should a future disaster occur and could prove to be a valuable tool in an emergency situation.

Nights Into Dreams celebrates it’s 15th anniversary!  I read on Sega’s fb page that they are considering doing a re-release of the Saturn classic.  Sounds great to me!

Well E3 has come to a close.  Lots of announcements this week.  I’m always on the lookout for the next intriguing project and this year it’s Papo & Yo for PSN.  Can’t wait to hear more things about this.

SkyGunner’s opening was always a delight to watch.  A flight shooter for PS2 back in the system’s early days, SkyGunner’s atmosphere and ship designs were on par with the Miyazaki films
